JULIA KASSEL

STUDIO MANAGER | CAPITOL HILL (she/they)
LISTENING TO:
“Da Girls” — Ciara

Julia is not only the first smiling face customers see when entering our studio, but they’re also hands-down the most likely to know exactly how you’re feeling and what you need. While she doesn’t have formal dance experience, she is an avid car dancer and famous among her friend group for being the first on the dance floor at any party (and usually the last to leave). She feels the most herself when she is being creative in all its forms – whether that be through painting, gardening, or spending time outdoors. Regardless of the job they have or the environment they’re in, Julia loves connecting with all types of people and creating an environment that feels warm, welcoming, and affirming of all identities.

MAY QIANG

STUDIO MANAGER | U-DISTRICT (she/her)
LISTENING TO: “From the Start” – Laufey

May’s lifelong love for dance began with a playful performance wrapped in toilet paper on her family’s dining table. As a professional figure skater for eight years, she trained in gymnastics, ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop. Five years ago, she discovered the world of k-pop and was a part of THE KOMPANY as a dance captain and is now a member of KOSMIX. May’s devotion to dance stems from its ability to express oneself and bring people together. With each step, she strives to create joy and foster harmony through the universal language of movement. Guided by unwavering passion, May hopes to continue to create a space that empowers others to move and groove on the dance floor.

FOUNDERS

KINSEY FLORES

CO-FOUNDER (she/her)
LISTENING TO:
“If I Could Go” — Angie Martinez

Kinsey was a performer in her own mind before anyone else knew it. She spent a majority of her childhood taking dance classes, creating her own dances at home, and putting on shows for her neighbors on her own makeshift stage (which was actually just her garage). Her fondest dance memory is choreographing a full performance for her and her best friends for their elementary school talent show and then forcing her mother to make them matching blue velour outfits. For her, dance is a powerful medium that can mend a bad day, connect people with their bodies, and create a sense of community among strangers.

CATHY BARNETT

Cathy got the dance bug at 5 years old while watching the Solid Gold Dancers shimmy to the Top 20 Hits every week on TV. Dancing quickly became her obsession and before long her mother picked up the Yellow Pages and found a local jazz dance school in the hopes it would channel Cathy’s excitement. The dance bug got her good and she ended up dancing professionally in the 1990s, appearing in numerous productions, events and music videos throughout New Zealand and Australia. Cathy believes dance is a celebration of music that unites people and cultures, with no limits to its creativity.
