“PopRox’s motto is “Dance is for every booty” and they really do live up to that. They’re so welcoming to everyone regardless of dance experience, body size, body type, age, gender, orientation, personality, physical fitness level, or lifestyle. If you’re the shy or self-conscious type, none of the instructors or staff will ever pressure you to come out of your shell. Their mission is to support each individual student in their own personal dance journey/goals, whatever those may be. Some people might have more ambitious goals than others, but PopRox staff never push you to try to achieve something you’re not interested in working towards. At PopRox, it’s about feeling comfortable in your body and learning about how your body moves. Instructors will emphasize in their classes that the goal in each class shouldn’t be to perfectly imitate how the instructor does the dance move, but instead to explore your body and find out how that dance move looks in yours. And if it looks different in your body, there’s nothing wrong with that! One of my dance goals is to figure out what dance style(s) suit my body, so I’ve been taking advantage of the many dance classes and instructors at PopRox to explore different dance styles and teaching styles. And try not to worry about looking awkward! You’re in front of other people, but everyone is in the same boat! We’re all friendly and non-judgmental, and even the advanced students once started out as beginners. If you’ve been wanting to see what potential you have for dancing but have been afraid to try before, you’re not going to get a better opportunity than a class at PopRox, where they welcome even the most shy, awkward, and inexperienced students.”
